Understanding Authors

It is necessary to understand the background. This is so that the author's style of writing and context can be more easily understood. For example, the author might be biased towards a certain issue or use a very strong context. Hence, by understanding the backgroud we can understand the rationale for the bias. By understanding the background we can also understand the situation the author was writing the book and hence tune our thinking towards the time frame and understand the story more.

Prejudice

Know:
Personally what I know of Prejudice, is regarding to put someone down, however the first thing that comes to my mind is the famous title "Pride and Prejudice". Prejudice has been existent over a great span of time. Prejudice ranges from official prejudice, or personal prejudice. Prejudice from ancient times include official prejudices when people are banished from a territory. Luckily, in modern times prejudice is highly despised by most societies. Hence, officially declared Prejudice is less common. However, the rise of personal prejudice is inevitable. I would link prejudice with racism. Consequently, the thoughts of African-Americans come to mind. In the US, as we all probably know, prejudice had existed towards the Native American "Blacks". Thankfully this type of racism has been curbed to a certain extent.

Want:
What I am interested is the past of Prejudice towards Native-Americans. Especially around the Civil War period. I would want to know the kind of attitude faced by the Native Americans and also the kind of fate they own. I want to find out their difference in society and what kind of jobs they are assigned. Also, I want to know the insights and the unknown tortures they endure.
